Samuels family never did have that much money either, and when his father John died of pneumonia in 1847, the family was in a financial struggle.
Starting from a very archean age, Samuel started his work in the field of writing to support his family. He was a very successful writer for the Western Union, a local newspaper owned by his older brother. Sam published his first of many sketches called A Gallant fire-eater, and when he was eighteen years old he left(p) his job as a writer to become a printer in New York City.
