The New York Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of trade union America (IESNA) established the Richard Kelly Grant in 1980 to preserve and defy forth Richard Kellys ideals, enthusiasm and reverence for light. Richard Kelly is widely accept as one of the founders of the architectural lighting design profession, impart a career that spanned more than four decades and included everywhere three hundred projects worldwide. The purpose of the grant is to recognize and advertise young individuals in North America whose work displays imaginative thought and activity in the use of light. The Grant is administered by the New York Section under the auspices of the IESNA. In 1992, research conducted by a student for his MFA thesis prompted the New York Section of the IESNA to form a committee dedicated to preserving and presenting the original project documents belonging to the after-hours Richard Kelly.



From this extensive collection a selection of important diachronic materials was made and organized into an exhibit highlighting the work and philosophical system of Mr. Kelly. Richard Kelly: Selected Works contains a total of thirty-seven framed works and photopanels which display original drawings, prints and photographs and is accompanied by labels, ten explanatory text panels and a catalogue brochure. Together these museum quality materials excuse Kellys philosophy of light and his visionary approach to fixation design, building illumination and daylighting.
