This poem is about a man who is at the decision of his living. The narrator illustrates his old maturate in the graduation stanza: When xanthous leaves, or none, or few, do hang/Upon those boughs which shake against the stale ( gillyflowers 2-3). He describes the end of fall and the beginning of winter in these lines.
