Alex Chambers HIST 345 1 February 2011 Bill Haywood on weaken Creek The autobiography of gigantic Bill Haywood was published in 1929, a year later on his death, and some twenty-five years after the incidents that occurred at stultify Creek, CO. In his writing, Haywood provides great amounts of detail and references newspaper articles, letters, and publications of the Western union of Miners (W.F.M) to explore the stillts surrounding Cripple Creek. A great compete of information can be analyzed from his work, but it is decipherable that Haywood writes from a deeply biased viewpoint. This is understandable considering his accounts of his level of interlocking in strikes and pains movement in Colorado. Haywood begins his account of Cripple Creek not in the mine or even the town, but in Colorado City. Around the turn of the Century, mine in Colorado was hazardous work and paid advertizeers little. Haywood identifies strikes in Colorado City, Telluride, Denver, and finally in Cripple Creek. This points to unrest in the region as a whole over labor issues. According the Haywood, this unrest stems from the crooked practices of corporations. An avid Socialist and labor organizer, Haywoods writing is rife with contempt for white-collar society.

Haywood describes the power point of the Citizens Alliance in Colorado City as, a banker […], a well-dressed, soft-palmed, white-collared parasite (Haywood 1929, 111). He continues his representation of turn of the century collective America when he begins to talk of gold tap. He writes some the self-made men, men like that poor prospector have put the riches of the world. […] But the wealth they have found has incessantly slipped into the coffers of the exploiters (Haywood 1929, 127). Haywood does not limit his view of labor vs. the corporations to just mining companies. He describes the arrival of the Colorado militia as a pay off by the mining companies.
