Art Movement Summary Realism
Realism is a style of painting and sculpture developed around the mid-19th century, mainly from 1830 to 1870, in which figures and scenes are depicted as they are undergo or might be experienced in customary life. (dictionary.com)
The accent of the realism art movement was acquisition and the optic effects of lights within our everyday world. Due to the focus on science, the idea of using imagination as a remove subject for an artists art was rejected. The artists of this movement believed that science was the key and the solution to all the problems faced by concourse in their day to day lives. As a go forth of these artists beliefs, a tendency grew among them to produce paintings that reflected the everyday mental experiences of tribes contemporary life. These paintings included abstract concepts such as cultures, problems and customs which tended which were constructed in the artists immediate surroundings, so they focused specifically on objects and people, which were traditionally not considered to admit any artistic merit.
Due to what the artist focused on, it took the focus away from the idea of imagination, which had had its basis in academic art, and go the focus onto those individuals and people in their everyday environment that had been disregard beforehand.
It is because of the principles of realism that the idea of it extended into socio-political environment, which lead to the formation of branches such as social realism and to a further extreme, left realism. Following the industrial revolution, the old ideals of society grew alongside the newer ideals of divisions in society which lead to the gap between the rich and the unfortunate to become wider and wider than it ever had been.
