Unilever Country Heads to Double-Hat with Strategy Shift

Mumbai: The E44 billion consumer products giant, Unilever, which recently named Harish Manwani as its chief direct offer (COO),has done away with its regional strategy by creating eight clusters of which its Indian subsidiary Hindustan Unilever (HUL) is an grievous part.

Of the eight clusters the heads of which would report directly to Manwani Nitin Paranjpe, the managing director & chief operating offer of HUL, has been made the head of the South Asia region. Manwani, in his graduation exercise interview after being named COO, told TOI that under the new governing body structure, heads of countries will be double-hatting to supervise their specific country as well as the cluster they belong to. The eight grocery store clusters are Europe (including Central and Eastern Europe), compass north Asia (Greater China and North East Asia),South East Asia and Australasia, South Asia, North Africa, Middle East, washout and Russia, Ukraine, Belarus (NAMET & RUB),Africa (Central Africa and South Africa),North America and Latin America. The clusters have been created to enable circular-knit alignment of every geography/ country and accelerate Unilevers target area of doubling the turnover.





The task that has been given to me is to work with the UEX (Unilever Executive) to deliver the order of business that we have set for ourselves, which is to accelerate our growth, double our business and inhibit environmental impact, said Manwani. He was in Mumbai in inter-group communication with a board showdown and annual general meeting of HUL. The people working with these clusters are now managing their job and double-hatting oversights. Nitin (Paranjpe), for instance, runs India and, at the same time, he has an oversight over the other countries in the cluster i.e. South Asia, Manwani said.
